Dr. Young-Jun Jang,Principal Researcher at the Extreme Materials Research Institute,Korea Institute of Materials Science (KIMS),is a leading expert in superlubricity and carbon-based modified DLC coatings for industrial applications. After earning his B.S. and M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Kyungpook National University and a Ph.D. from Nagoya University (Supervisor: Prof. Noritsugu Umehara),Japan.
Dr. Jang began his career at Samsung Electronics in 2010. He later joined the Korea Photonics Technology Institute and, since 2015, has been advancing tribology research at KIMS. With over 50 published papers and 20 registered patents, Dr. Jang has made significant contributions to both fundamental and applied research. His achievements have been recognized with numerous honors, including the IU-MRS Young Scientist Award (2008), Korea Tribology Society Research Awards (2020, 2024), NST (National Research Council of Science & Technology) Chairperson Award for Excellence (2020), Top 10 Mechanical Technologies of the Year (2019), National R&D Excellence 100 Selection – Minister’s Award (2018), and the World-Class Technology Award (2018) in Korea.
